Robert Morgenthaler

studied at Konservatorium Zürich and at the Swiss Jazz School. Since 1979 instructor at Hochschule der Künste HKB in Berne and at the Lucerne School of Music. Active worldwide with tours in Europe, Africa, USA, South America, Asia, and Russia. Various radio, TV, and CD productions.

1976-83: Member of the Swiss Jazz Quintet (various LP productions and many concerts at home and abroad). Concerts with Hannibal Marvin Peterson and Kenny Wheeler.

From 1984, concerts and recordings with Bill Coleman, Craig Russell, François Lindemann.

1985-1986: Carla Bley Swiss Band and Carla Bley Euro-American Band, with Steve Swallow, Bob Stewart, Victor Lewis and others

1987-1990: Joe Haider Sextet, Joe Haider - Mel Lewis Orchestra.

From 1991, performances and productions with Lee Koniz, Bob Stewart, Makaya Nzoko, Robin Eubanks, Moondog, Jean-Paul Bourelly, Günter Baby Sommer, Franco Ambrosetti, Michel Godard.

1999 with “Roots of Communication” at the Sufi Soul World Music Festival in Lahore, Pakistan. Soloist at the World Expo 2000 in Hanover, playing music composed by Daniel Ott.

2001: Performances with the German writer and Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass: the “Novemberland” project.

2004: Performance of Peter Kowald’s Global Village at Pina Bausch Tanztheater Wuppertal.

Since 1997, repeatedly voted trombonist of the year by “Jazz’n’more” magazine.

2005: Performances with groups such as Unart 4.0, Lars Lindvall Tentet, with Erika Stucky & Roots of Communication at the Jazz Festival Grenoble and Düsseldorf, with Echo vom Zürihorn in Rome, Barolo/I, Ludwigshafen/D, Boston/USA, with Günter “Baby” Sommer in Dresden
