Søren Gundermann

studied at the Universities of Potsdam and Warsaw (piano with Iris Unger and Detlef Pauligk, composition with Bringfried Löffler). In 2010 he was a DAAD scholarship holder at the Centrum Polonicum. After a workshop with the Berlin composer Hermann Keller, he worked intensively on unconventional playing techniques on the piano (»Inside Piano«, preparation) and completed his studies with a concert and a master's thesis on the »Prepared Piano« in various musical styles.
Since 2011 he has been working as a freelance pianist solo and in various ensembles in the fields of jazz, world and experimental music, with improvisation being the connecting element. He composed theater music, released three albums with the bands »Jack Novelle« and »Gundermann & Strauch« and has worked in previous concert programs with film music, Eastern European folk melodies and the music of Erik Satie.
Numerous projects in dialogue with the visual arts and literature complement his busy concert schedule. He has been teaching jazz piano at the KleistMusik Schule in Frankfurt (Oder) since 2013, where he has also been a co-organizer of the annual PianOdra Piano Festival since 2017.
In February 2020, his first solo CD »Europe Variations« was released on the Potsdam label Meletoi, for which he composed 13 jazz variations on the melody of the European anthem.
